Cute Ways To Pamper Floppy For Rabbit Week

July 15, 2023

Rabbit lovers definitely have a lot to be hoppy about this month: it’s not only Adopt A Rescued Rabbit Month, we also have Rabbit Week starting on the 26th. While you of course don’t need any particular reason to spoil your cute pet, this is a great time to pamper your bunny a bit. In this article from Fairfield Animal Hospital, your Cypress, TX pet hospital, a local vet lists some things to try.

DIY Toys

Rabbits need a pretty much endless supply of chew toys. Luckily for us, these are quite easy to make. Crumple up some plain paper. Put small treats in some of the balls. When you have enough balls, put them in a storage tote and let your friend have at it. You can even make your little bunny a cardboard castle. Look online for more ideas and options.

Treats

No surprises here: snacks are just as popular with rabbits as they are with the rest of our patients. For a very special treat, you can give Floppy small bits of safe fruits. Some good options include banana, apple, carrot, blackberries, blueberries, melon, peaches, papaya, pineapple, and strawberries. Just don’t go too crazy with sweets: too much sugar is just as bad for rabbits as it is for us! Ask your vet for more information.

Training

Did you know that bunnies can learn some really cute tricks? Floppy can be trained to stand up, turn in circles, or go into her cage on command. Rabbits have even learned to ‘play’ the piano. To be fair, it’s unlikely that your furry friend will reach the musical level of Bugs Bunny, who mastered classical pieces like Wagner’s Funeral March and Rhapsody No. 2 by Franz Listz in Rhapsody Rabbit. However, it will be cute to see her try!

Grooming

Summer can be hard on bunnies: they can’t sweat, and, unlike our canine patients, they can’t cool down by swimming. In fact, you’ll need to be careful to keep Floppy dry. For one thing, rabbits are terrified of water. They’re also at risk of flystrike in humid conditions. Gently brushing your furry friend will keep her coat soft and clean. Your bun may also appreciate having a fan pointed at her cage.
