Choosing Cat Furniture

October 15, 2022
Does your feline friend have some things of her own? Fluffy isn’t shy about using our furniture, but it’s good for her to have a few things of her own. A local vet offers some advice on things to consider when choosing cat furniture in this article from Fairfield Animal Hospital, your Cy-Fair, TX pet clinic.

Beds

This one is pretty easy. Round beds, square beds, flat beds, beds with raised sides … Fluffy will sleep in all of them. (Then again, she may also ignore her bed and snooze on a pizza box.) Try to offer your furry friend at least one comfy sleeping spot in each room. It’s good to have choices!

Cat Towers

Cat towers serve several purrposes: they provide lookout points, from which your kitty can observe her kingdom and subjects (that would be you). They also provide jungle gyms, scratching posts, and, of course, another napping spot. Keep Fluffy’s age in mind here. Kittens will enjoy fun pieces that incorporate toys. Older cats are going to be more interested in comfy lounging spots. If you have more than one furball, pick one that’s big enough to fit all of your feline pals. Otherwise, they may squabble over it!

Enclosed Pieces

Do you have a scaredy-cat on your hands? Fluffy will probably feel safest in a small, enclosed space. This doesn’t have to be fancy: you can even go the DIY route and dress up a box or a plastic storage tote.

Window Seat

Our feline overlords spend a rather ridiculous amount of time snoozing, but they still need stimulation. Offer Fluffy a comfy window seat, so she can combine her three favorite pastimes: napping, sunbathing, and watching birds and squirrels.

Scratching Posts

Fluffy will need a good pawdicue station to sharpen her nails on. If you’re tight on space, you can look for a hanging scratcher, one you can just attach to a wall. There are also scratching boards that you put on the floor. Some of these are pretty cute! You can find ones shaped like tacos, vans, or even whales.

Wheels

You may think of exercise wheels as being mostly for pocket pets, but they make cat-sized ones too. This is a great option for super active kitties! Do you have questions about your cat’s health or care? Contact us here at Fairfield Animal Hospital, your Cy-Fair, TX pet clinic.
