National Dog Party Day

June 15, 2020

There’s a fun holiday around the corner. June 21st is National Dog Party Day! There’s certainly been more than enough bad news this year. It’s a nice change to focus on something more fun and lighthearted. Dogs are definitely something to celebrate. Their love, loyalty, and friendship are all precious gifts. In this article from Fairfield Animal Hospital, your Cy-Fair animal hospital, a veterinarian offers some tips on celebrating your Fido’s special day.

Treats

One surefire way to get Fido’s cute tail going is to give him a yummy snack. Plain, cooked meat, fish, or chicken is always a good bet. You can also give your furry best friend some store-bought treats. Or, just make your own. You’ll find lots of recipes online. Just stick to ingredients that you know are safe for dogs.

Splashing Fun

Many of our canine companions love to cool off on sweltering hot days by going for a swim. If you can, take your pup to a quiet, pet-safe swimming hole. If that isn’t a good option, get him a kiddie pool. Fido may also enjoy playing in the spray from a sprinkler, hose, or fountain.

Tricks

Dogs are very smart, and often enjoy learning new things. If your furry buddy already knows basic obedience commands, like Sit, Stay, and Come, teach him some advanced commands. Drop it and Leave it are both very useful. You don’t want Fido picking up that chicken wing someone dropped at the park! You can also show your pet some cute tricks, like Beg or Roll Over.

Toys

There are many things to love about dogs, but one of the best things about them is the fact that they’re so playful. Buy or make Fido a new toy. You’ll find lots of great ideas online. Here’s an easy one: cut an old t-shirt into strips, and then braid those together. Then, make bigger braids, and tie the whole thing off in a knot. This is a great project for kids!

Photo Shoot

One thing we can say about all of our patients: they’re all super cute, and quite photogenic. Take time to get some great photos of your four-legged friend. You can also try experimenting with different frames and effects. You can never have too many pet photos!
