Cute Ways to Celebrate National Puppy Day

March 15, 2021
National Puppy Day is March 28th! Dogs certainly are one of life’s greatest gifts. And while any pooch can fill our lives with love, the joyful exuberance puppies have it truly special. Of course, your canine pal will always be a puppy at heart, even when he’s all grown up. In this article from Fairfield Animal Hospital, a Cy-Fair vet offers some tips on celebrating this cute holiday with Fido.

Socialization

Socialization is absolutely crucial to puppies. It’s important for Fido to be exposed to new faces and places while he’s little. Otherwise, he may become wary of them down the road, which would make many behavioral issues, such as aggression, more likely. Take your furry pal to a park, and let him socialize with other well-behaved dogs. (Normally, we’d also recommend puppy parties, but the pandemic may put a damper on those.) You can try wearing different hats and masks, and visiting new places.

Treats

What’s a surefire way to get that tail going? Treats! Don’t just grab something random: pay attention to labels and ingredients. You can also experiment with making your own. Just stick with safe, non-toxic ingredients, like shredded meat, pureed pumpkin, and bananas.

Toys

Toys are an absolute must for puppies, especially as they are teething. Offer your canine buddy a variety of toys. Little Fido should have lots of chew toys, as well as some comfort toys, puzzle toys, and treat-dispensing toys.

Photos

Take lots of photos of this super cute phase of your furry friend’s life. It will be over before you know it! It would be great if Fido’s adorable toddler phase lasted longer. That’s one of the reasons puppies are so precious. They just grow up so quickly! If your canine friend is already grown up, pull out some of his puppy pics, if you have them.

Adoption

The best way to celebrate this special day? Adopting a puppy! While this is of course a huge decision, it’s also one that can bring you years of love and joy.

Donate

If you’re not ready for a dog just yet, you can still help pups of all ages that need loving homes. Consider donating to a local shelter or rescue. Contact Fairfield Animal Hospital, your Cy-Fair vet clinic, for more information on puppy care. We love watching puppies grow into happy, healthy adults!
