Holiday Charities For Pets

December 1, 2023

Happy Holidays! Many of you have a lot going on at this time of year, with all of those seasonal events and activities to prepare for. Charities are also quite busy around the holidays. Many animal welfare and rescue organizations rely very much on donations to stay solvent and provide care to their adorable charges. Needless to say, the holidays is a crucial time of year for them. In this article Fairfield Animal Hospital, your Cypress, TX pet hospital, a local vet offers some tips on helping out.

Animals In Need

Although we’ve made progress on animal rights in recent years, there’s still a lot of work to be done. There’s no shortage of causes and organizations to support. You can opt for a local shelter or rescue, or go with a larger organization, such as the ASPCA. Another option is to pick something that’s specific to a breed or animal you’re attached to. Many charities have wish lists, which make it easy to help them out. Some organizations that work with the homeless can also use pet supplies, as pets unfortunately sometimes live on the streets with their owners. If you want to donate supplies, reach out to the organization first, and find out what they need.

Ways To Help

Animal charities are always in need of both monetary donations and supplies. However, those aren’t the only options. If you have some downtime around the holidays, consider volunteering. Spending a few hours working to help animals in need can be very rewarding, and makes a nice break from the hustle-and-bustle of the season. That doesn’t necessarily mean cleaning kennels: many places can also use help with things like taking pet photos or even just walking dogs. You may also want to get involved by organizing supply drives or perhaps hosting auctions, bake sales, or other charity events.

Passive Helping

You can also help animal charities indirectly. While doing your holiday shopping, consider products that donate proceeds to charities. These can make great gifts. Although Amazon has unfortunately discontinued its Smile program, there are similar options out there. Even your smartphone may help! If you have a dog, consider downloading the Wooftrax app. The app tracks the distance you and Fido go on your strolls, and donates funds to an animal shelter of your choice, with the amounts based on how far you’ve gone. That’s ‘pawesome!’
