Fido’s Favorite Jobs

June 15, 2022
Take Your Dog To Work Day is coming up on June 24th. Man’s Best Friend has held a variety of jobs over the past 30,000 years or so. These range from sniffing out bombs to rescuing trapped skiiers to fetching our slippers. If we could ask Fido about his favorites, what do you think would make his short list? A local vet takes a few guesses in this article from Fairfield Animal Hospital, your Cy-Fair, TX animal clinic.

Explorer

If there’s one thing many of our canine buddies love, it’s exploring new parks and trails. As Ferris Bueller said, life passes pretty fast, and if you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. Taking your pup to a pretty spot is a great example of this.

Cattle Herder

One of Fido’s very first jobs was herding cattle. While it’s probably safe to say that these skills aren’t as in demand as they once were, our canine pals have kept their chops up. In fact, if you have a herding dog, you may notice your pooch instinctively trying to herd your family!

Package Delivery

Does your furry buddy love playing Fetch? If so, there’s a good chance that your pooch is at least partly descended from retriever breeds. Golden retrievers, for example, were developed to help retrieve fowl from lakes and ponds. We suspect (and hope) that most dogs will never, ever bring their humans actual ducks. Regardless, Fido still can’t resist running and splashing around in water.

Motivator

Dogs have a special way of making everything better. Fido definitely prompts his humans to get up and moving. Those daily walks are great for both you and your pup!

Taste Tester

Dogs are known for being very enthusiastic about food. Fido is always willing to help sample recipes, or make sure that the bacon cheeseburger you’re eating is safe.

Personal Trainer

Some of our canine friends are, well, basically furry, barking couch potatoes. However, many dogs are active and energetic. Fido loves accompanying his humans on jogs and hikes.

Couch Control

Speaking of couch potatoes … some pups are just more motivated than others. Fido’s dream job may be just holding down the couch … or his doggy bed! Please contact Fairfield Animal Hospital, your Cy-Fair, TX animal clinic, for all of your pup’s veterinary care needs. We’re here to help!
