Our Veterinarians

Dr. Hicks grew up in Augusta, Georgia with his parents and three sisters. His father’s career took the family to Texas, and Dr. Hicks has considered himself a Texan since the late 1970s. After obtaining his undergraduate degree in biomedical science from Texas A&M University, he attended Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in the spring of 1992. He worked in a small-animal practice in Houston for one year, then a mixed-animal facility in Lufkin. In 1998, he accepted a position at an emergency clinic back in Houston.

After three years as a critical care veterinarian, Dr. Hicks decided to pursue his longtime dream of practice ownership. He opened Fairfield Animal Hospital’s doors in September of 2001 in order to provide top-notch service to the pet owners of Cypress. Medically, Dr. Hicks is fond of surgery, wound management, and internal medicine cases. Most of all, though, he enjoys the day-to-day interaction with his clients and their beloved pets. He never tires of hearing about his patients’ home lives!

Dr. Hicks is a proud father to three fantastic sons, all graduates of Texas A&M University. His eldest, Justin, is in the oil and gas sector and works in the Energy Corridor of Houston. His middle son, Casey, has is a physical therapist. Trey, his youngest, earned his BS and Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering.

Dr. Hicks currently shares his home with three dogs under five pounds – a rescued Chihuahua named Pecos, Brulée the miniature Poodle, and a Yorkie who goes by Jethro. In his time away from the clinic, Dr. Hicks enjoys golfing and fishing with his sons, spending time in the Texas hill country, and watching Aggie football. He’s also a trail veterinarian for the famous Iditarod Sled Dog Race—every year, he makes the trip to Alaska to tend to the event’s amazing canine athletes!
