6 Ways To Help Your Cat Become More Cuddly

October 15, 2019
Is your feline buddy a bit on the aloof side? While some cats are quite the little cuddlebugs, others just don’t seem to care for being held or petted very much. In some cases, this may just be a matter of purrsonality. However, sometimes kitties just need to build trust. In this article from Fairfield Animal Hospital, your Cy-Fair, TX animal clinic, a vet offers some advice on helping Fluffy become more of a snuggler.

Open Invitation

Try sitting cross-legged on the floor. With one hand, hold out a toy or treat. Make a clicking or kissing noise, or just try calling Fluffy to you. If she approaches, give her the ‘prize’ and, if she lets you, pet her.

Cuddles And Pets

Kitties all have their own individual preferences for how they like to be petted, and for how long. That said, most cats like getting their ears, chins, and foreheads rubbed. You can also just give Fluffy a quick kiss on the forehead.

Great TLC

Our furry pals always thrive when they feel loved. Give Fluffy a great life by providing her with toys, treats, good food, a clean litterbox, and some kitty furniture. Playing with your cute pet every day will also help her feel spoiled. Your furball will appreciate the good care you give her, which may make her act more affectionate.

Conversation

Talking to your cat is a great way to bond with her. Even if Fluffy doesn’t know what you’re saying, she’ll know that you’re communicating with her. (Bonus: your feline friend won’t spill any secrets!)

Fluffy’s Rules

Cats get extremely uneasy when they feel like they’re being held against their will. Never try to force Fluffy to stay on your lap or in your arms. When you hold your kitty, put her down as soon as she starts to wiggle. If she’s on your lap, just let her hop down whenever she wants. This is extremely important for building trust!

Let Fluffy Be Fluffy

Keep in mind that some cats just don’t like being held. Your furball may be purrfectly content to simply follow you around and watch you from across the room. That’s absolutely fine! She’s still showing affection in her own way. Please contact Fairfield Animal Hospital, your Cy-Fair, TX animal clinic, for all of your kitty’s veterinary care needs. We’re here to help!
