Doggy Date Night

February 1, 2022
Did you know that February 3rd is Doggy Date Night? This is a great time to show your pooch some extra TLC, and get that cute tail wagging. A local vet discusses this ‘pawesome’ pet holiday in this article from Fairfield Animal Hospital, your Cypress, TX animal clinic.

The Meaning

Doggy Date Night may seem like a bit of an odd choice for an observation day. After all, you see and interact with your canine companion every day. The point is to remind people to carve out some special quality time with their beloved pets. Many people are very busy these days, and sometimes get very caught up in that day-to-day rush. Taking some time to relax with Fido will be good for you both!

Getting Ready

You want to make sure that your furry friend looks his best for the big date. If Fido hasn’t had a bath for a while, schedule an appointment with his groomer. Dental care and nail trims are also important. Don’t forget to take some pictures!

Trappings

So how does one honor this ‘pawspicious’ occasion? Fido probably won’t be very impressed if you bring him roses, and you definitely shouldn’t give him chocolates. (They’re toxic to dogs.) Your pooch may be happier with a new toy or a special treat!

Activities

Our canine buddies are very intelligent, and they can get bored and restless with the same-old same-old. Playtime and stimulation are definitely on the menu here. If it’s warm enough, head to a park or trail with Fido, and let him explore a new area. If you want to stay inside, entertain your furry buddy with toys and playtime. Puzzle games are a good option. You can also play Hide and Seek. Or, work on some new tricks with your pup. Many dogs like learning new things!

Movie Choices

A dog-themed movie is the perfect option for entertainment. There are lots of really cute ones to pick from. Some of our favorites? 101 Dalmatians, Marley and Me, Lady and The Tramp, Bolt, and White Fang. If you’re in the mood for a comedy, you may enjoy Best in Show. The Secret Life of Pets is also a good option. Here at Fairfield Animal Hospital, your Cypress, TX veterinary clinic, we are dedicated to offering great care.
