6 Ways to Refresh a Cat Tower

July 15, 2019
Cat towers benefit kitties in many ways. They offer Fluffy a great nail care station, a jungle gym, a napping spot, and a good vantage point from which she can observe her domain. However, our feline pals sometimes do lose interest in their furniture, and opt to hang out in cardboard boxes instead. In this article from Fairfield Animal Hospital, your Cy-Fair animal clinic, a vet offers tips on getting Fluffy interested in her tower again.

Cleaning

If your pet’s tower hasn’t been cleaned in a while, that could be why she’s ignoring it. Cat towers, like furniture, will eventually collect dust, dirt, fur, and dander, which will of course make them less appealing to kitties. If you have a steam cleaner with an attachment, that’s your best bet. A regular vacuum will also work.

Move It

Sometimes cats get used to seeing things in the background, and kind of forget about them. Moving the cat tower to a new spot might pique Fluffy’s interest. Your feline overlord will also have a new view of her domain, which may also help. We all know how kitties enjoy supervising their humans!

Recover It

If the carpeting or covering on the cat tower is worn out, you may want to just replace it. This can actually be a pretty quick project! You can use carpet scraps or peel-and-stick carpet to save yourself some money. Just be sure there are no nails or staples sticking out when you’re done.

Make It Fun!

Put some fun kitty toys near Fluffy’s tower. If your kitty likes catnip, sprinkle some on and around it. You get the added bonus of watching your furball’s antics!

Window View

Does your furry buddy’s tower have a window view? If so, put a birdfeeder up in Fluffy’s line of sight. Cats can spend hours watching birds!

Access

Is your cat entering her golden years? If so, Fluffy may have a hard time climbing onto her kitty tower. Consider moving it to a spot that gives her easier access via a chair or couch. You may even want to consider getting pet stairs, or even replacing the tower with something that’s easier for your feline friend to get on and off.
