Dog Party Day

June 15, 2018
Did you know there’s a special doggy holiday coming up? June 21st is Dog Party Day! We’re not sure what this holiday officially recognizes, but it almost doesn’t matter. After all, you don’t need much of a reason to celebrate our canine pals! In this article from Fairfield Animal Hospital, your Cy-Fair animal clinic, a vet offers tips on throwing a party for your pup.

Fido’s Buddies

Invite some friends with polite, friendly dogs over, and let Fido play with his buddies. Host a pot luck or barbeque for your human friends, and offer your fuzzy pals some yummy treats. Just make sure that all of your furry visitors are fixed, microchipped, and current on their vaccinations and parasite control products.

Toys

Make sure to offer your furry guests plenty of fun toys. You don’t want them arguing over who gets to use the tennis ball! If you want to save money, look up some DIY dog toy ideas online. For instance, you can make a cute rope toy out of a tee shirt. Cut the shirt into strips, and braid the strips together. Then, braid the braids together. Voila!

Treats

Snacks are a definite puppy party must! You can buy doggy treats, but you can also make your own. Here’s an easy one: put some kibble into an ice cube tray. You can also add shredded cheese and/or bacon bits. Then, pour sodium-free broth over it, and pop it into the freezer. Instant tail wags! Look online for more great recipes. Just be sure to only use ingredients that are safe for Fido. Don’t give your canine buddies garlic, onion, scallions, or chives; pitted fruits; chocolate; alcohol; raw meat, dough, or yeast; meat on the bone; nuts; or anything that contains xylitol.

Splash

Set out a kiddie pool for Fido and his four-legged buddies to play in. You may also want to set up a sprinkler so that the dogs can play in the spray. This can make for some really cute pet photos!

Safety

Before your guests arrive, do some puppyproofing. Remove anything that could be dangerous, such as toxic plants, small or sharp objects, and plastic bags or wrappers. We also recommend making sure that your fencing and gates close securely. Do you have questions about your dog’s health or care?
