Preventing Kitty Boredom

September 1, 2017
Did you know that cats can get bored? In fact, Fluffy can get restless and unhappy with nothing to do. Making sure your kitty has plenty of entertainment options is very important. In this article from Fairfield Animal Hospital, your Cy-Fair vet clinic, a local vet discusses keeping your furball entertained.

Toys

First and foremost, make sure that Fluffy has plenty of fun toys to pounce on. Some kitties prefer catnip mice, while others like plastic balls or squeaky toys. You can also get your furry friend a robotic fish or a mechanical mouse.

Window View

Even if your cat wouldn’t be able to catch a mouse that ran out in front of her, she’ll still enjoy watching local wildlife. Give Fluffy a comfy window seat, so she can spy on birds and squirrels, sunbathe, and daydream about being a ferocious hunter.

Kitty Garden

Cats are much safer staying indoors, but who says indoor kitties can’t still enjoy a taste of nature? Get some nontoxic plants, and set them out around your place, so your furball can peek out from behind green leaves and pretend she’s a ferocious tiger or panther. Check the ASPCA website for a list of pet-safe plants.

Playtime

Take time to play with Fluffy every day. Playing will not only keep your cute pet active, it also offers her beneficial mental stimulation. Just a few minutes of chasing that elusive red dot will be great for your feline pal! This is also a great way to bond with your kitty, and keep that little motor going.

Cat Furniture

Cat furniture is really very beneficial for Fluffy! Cats love having nooks and crannies to explore, and they also like climbing to high places. We recommend getting your furry buddy a cat tower. Your furball may also enjoy catwalks, wall-mounted furniture, or pet tents or tipis. Even plain cardboard boxes can be lots of fun for kitties!

Playmates

If Fluffy is an only pet, she may enjoy having a playmate to chase around and snuggle with. Of course, before adopting another cat, you’ll need to consider both kitties’ ages, histories, and temperaments. Adopting a pet is a lifelong commitment, so think things through very carefully before you proceed. Ask your vet for advice. Do you need to make an appointment for your pet?
